The Monumental Traumas In Adopted Children
The Exploration of trauma
In Maltreated Adult Adopted Children, are plagued by persistent hypervigilance and hyperarousal states. These autonomic physiological states in adult adopted children are manifestations from adopted childhood coping, compensating, prolonged traumas, inconsistent adoptive parenting, adoptive parent's consistent adopted child abuse, maltreatment and neglect of the adopted child. The abusive adoptive parent is seen as the threat to an adopted child brought up in a fear based, punishing home environments.
The adopted child is subjected to forced behavioral demands and unnatural ways of thinking, as opposed to the natural and spontaneous ways of a child's honest and unprompted verbal, gestures, behaviors and questions that are not scripted or told they are wrong to think a certain way. Spontaneous verbal questions are common, welcome and considered in biological children. The disconnection between disregarded adopted child and their non-biological caregivers is seen in the adoptive parent's intolerance for the adopted child's lack of spontaneous responding with scripted dialog of how the child should respond when questioned. The condescending "speak when spoken to" negative attitude toward the child effects the adopted child's sense of self, self esteem, self regard, place, lack of belonging and isolation that is typical of maltreated adopted children, who are not welcome to display their genuine true selves, and this display is seen as deliberate provoking of the adoptive parent's anger. The adopted child is sanctioned by understated rules of behavioral conduct including the adoptive parent's vast amount of unrealistic expectations and "adopted child silence", that biological children are not normally subjected to. Giving rise to the dual persona of the adopted child "Role" that allows the adopted child to exist in the adoptive family. The adopted child's
life is harshly effected by his attempts to satisfy and master the adopted child role, and keeping his biological true self concealed from the adoptive life. The stressful effects from the adopted child role distort normal daily living, emotional regulation and identity formation. The perpetual stress of maltreatment and isolation, abuse and neglect to fulfill the empty role of adopted child gives rise to hyperarousal, hypervigilence, hypersensitivity
in the constant scanning for threats, ques and the emotional functioning of the adoptive parent or authority figure that may bring trouble at any moment.
