The Assault On Genealogy Lessons Taught In School By Pro-Adoption Advocates

The Argument Against Adoptee Rights, Access, & Heritage:

Adoption rights organizations often focus on the adoptees rights in school and advocate for change in the system to accommodate the adoptee in the classroom. Familiar lessons like "draw your family tree" or "trace your eye color back through your parents and grandparents to see where your genes come from" are viewed as hurtful to children who were adopted and do not know this biological information. New lesson plans can be substituted easily, that focus on "family orchards" or steer away from personal medical histories. Discussions about these sensitive topics, advocates argue, are the same as those that were conducted around issues of disability, race, and gender, and foster respect for differences in the same way as these earlier national conversations.
By labeling the adopted child a victim of intentional genealogical disability and classroom humiliation (through child adoption), The victim-hood status is owned by the adoptive parent's guilt from their deliberate denial and purposeful altering of the adopted child's identity to erase the adopted child's history, genealogy and heritage, which all human beings are entitled.
This argument against this very important identity enhancing lesson and learning tool that should be understood by all young school children is chosen instead as a scapegoat to blame and distance the adoptive parent's guilt and denial reality that they have created. This is a perfect example of adoption shame that is created, perpetuated and owned by adoptive parents alone.
